For instance, if I have songs with the following tags: What I've been looking for, but so far haven't been able to find, is a system that creates playlists from queries to my music database, based on tags I assign to individual songs. My music library has grown exponentially in the past year or so, due to boredom during covid, and I've come to the conclusion that playlists (as in, static lists of music files that you need to update manually) are functionally useless for large libraries. Curious to get some feedback on the idea here! * technical debt in the code base - I tried to make a PR to fix some of it, but I wasn't willing to put in the extra work needed to make it Python 2 compatibleĪs for a tagging system: Here's a comment I made in another thread a few months ago. * MusicBrainz is given too much priority by the autotagger, and the Discogs plugin has been somewhat neglectedd * emphasis on albums - most of my songs are singletons, and beets doesn't have good support for this use case genre, date, album artist.Beets is great! Unfortunately there there are a few things that prevent me from actually using it: Paned browser, using any fully customizable tags (e.g.Playlists with integration throughout the player.play count, rating, inclusion in playlist). Queries support boolean logic, numerical / date-based expressions, and regular expressions, and synthetic tags, that are derived internally (e.g.Progressive search - library is filtered as searches are typed.Customisable Aggregation across albums or playlists (min, max, average, sum, Bayesian average).Automatically recognize and display tags from many uncommon tags.Drag-n-drop support throughout interface.Launch additional "browsers" to keep different or multiple views on the library. ![]() Configurable interface to suit user preferences Pango markup is used so that user can display tags in any way desired in the player.Screenshot demonstrating Quod Libet's capabilities to organize and display audio files with custom tags. The XFCE desktop ISO image provided by the Debian project installs Quod Libet as the default audio player. Quod Libet is available on most Linux distributions, macOS and Windows, requiring only PyGObject, Python, and an Open Sound System (OSS), ALSA or JACK compatible audio device. It provides a full feature set including support for Unicode, regular expression searching, key bindings to multimedia keys, fast but powerful tag editing, and a variety of plugins. Quod Libet is very scalable, able to handle libraries with tens of thousands of songs with ease. Ex Falso is the stand-alone tag-editing app (no audio) based on the same code and libraries. Quod Libet is based on GTK and written in Python, and uses the Mutagen tagging library. The main design philosophy is that the user knows how they want to organize their music best the software is therefore built to be fully customizable and extensible using regular expressions and boolean logic. Quod Libet is a cross-platform free and open-source audio player, tag editor and library organizer.
